Responsible financial management including minimalisation of Council Rates.
A vibrant city, but not at the expense of its best assets.
Since being first elected in 2007 I am proud to have:
- Saved a number of buildings through heritage listings, and from Council itself, where buildings were recommended to be demolished, all of which have since been restored instead, including: The Victoria Park Gates, now THE STABLES, Victoria Park Kiosk, PAC Boat shed and Lounder’s Boat shed.
- Succeeded in ensuring the Central Market Arcade façade, that was demolished in the 1960’s, will be reinstated with the higher development behind set back at least 12m to maintain the human 2-storey scale to the street and likewise for the Le Cornu site in North Adelaide through the setting of the Guiding Principles for both Council projects.
- Had St Peter’s Cathedral floodlit from the O’Connell Street approach.
- Adorned the stern of the Clipper Ship ‘City of Adelaide’ with the ‘City of Adelaide’ Coat of Arms.
- Successfully moved to complete the now magnificent Queen Adelaide Room to Sir Edmund Wrights original 1867 design.
- Commemorated Colonel Light’s Trig Marker Aset-out point for the city.
- Initiated the use of recycled plastic in our bitumen roads.
- Urban Design improvements such as slate grey flagstone footpaths and beautiful, non-glary Louis Poulson lighting as standard as well as‘Naked Streets’ with minimal line markings and signage.
To me, the most important quality of a Councillor is their ‘preparedness to be persuaded’ as independents and not be factionally indebted to others.
See my how I measure against what I stood for: |
